There’s something peculiarly American about rolling up your sleeves and helping those in need. It warms the heart to see good people—those confronted with hardship, such as backbreaking debt or medical bills—have their fantasies fulfilled; to see their eyes glimmer with the restored beauty of a family home.

Last year, PINKYS began a partnership with HGTV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which remodels neglected homes for families who are struggling to pay the bills, or find respite from the economic challenges produced by the pandemic. Extreme Makeover provides an apolitical jolt of happiness wrought with drama and warmth. Classic hard hats, cheering crowds, teary eyes, and blue polo shirts provide the visual cues for fantasy fulfillment for both viewer and subject: a family that deserve a helping hand.
Our Air 4 Single Flat steel doors were part of the renovation projects of two L.A. families: the Washingtons and Fifitas, who saw their neglected homes completely revitalized by the Extreme Makeover crew. One of our most popular custom iron doors (Air 4 Single Flat) are now the exquisitely hand-forged portals for two deserving families. We’re honored to be a part of their American Dream.
The homes of the Washingtons and Fifitas were reinvigorated with the help of over 200 local volunteers. But they were more than just homes. They were safes spaces that had begun to crumble from within. Their stories reflect the importance of community; how one family can spread love and acceptance into the homes of their neighbors—who then return the favor.
The Fifita home in Hawthorne—a 900-square foot classic built in the 1940s—was known as the “neighborhood YMCA,” a safe space for local youth. The Washington’s 1965 midcentury modern had become a sanctuary for at-risk youth. They were brought back to life because of the efforts of the Extreme Makeover crew. The Washingtons and Fifitas were two of 10 families selected last season, which was Extreme Makeover’s first season on HGTV. Our custom iron doors were featured on two separate episodes.
