Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to all of our most frequently asked questions.

Finish

What type of paint is used on PINKYS steel doors & windows?

PINKYS steel doors and windows are finished using multiple coats of automotive-grade paint designed for durability and long-term performance. Each steel door undergoes a detailed finishing process to ensure maximum protection and visual quality.

The doors are then professionally primed and baked, allowing the finish to properly cure and bond to the steel surface. Finally, a protective clear coat is applied to enhance durability and provide a refined appearance.

This multi-step finishing process ensures that PINKYS steel doors and steel windows maintain their beauty while offering long-lasting protection against everyday wear.

What colors are available for PINKYS iron doors and steel windows?

PINKYS offers a curated selection of premium finishes for both exterior steel doors and steel windows.

Exterior color options include:

  • Black
  • Oil Rubbed Bronze
  • Sunset Pink
  • Montecito Mint
  • Palm Desert Sand
  • Angeles Green
  • Brushed Silver
  • Pewter

For interior steel doors and windows, all exterior colors are available, with the addition of White, which is designed specifically for indoor applications.

Our color options are carefully selected to complement a wide range of architectural styles, from modern and contemporary homes to traditional designs.

Can I order a white exterior steel door or window?

No, white is only available for interior steel doors and windows.

White paint is particularly sensitive to oxidation, environmental exposure, and discoloration when installed outdoors. Exterior elements such as sun exposure, moisture, and temperature changes can cause white finishes to show wear much more quickly.

To ensure long-term durability and appearance, PINKYS offers white exclusively for interior steel door and window applications.

Are PINKYS iron doors powder coated?

No, PINKYS steel doors and windows are not powder coated. Instead, we use a high-quality automotive-grade painted finish that provides excellent durability and a refined appearance.

This finish is carefully applied and cured through a professional process that includes priming, baking, and a protective clear coat, ensuring long-lasting performance for both interior and exterior steel doors.

Which finish is better: powder coating or painted steel doors?

Both powder coating and painted finishes have advantages, but painted steel doors offer greater long-term flexibility and maintenance benefits.

One of the key advantages of painted finishes is that they can be easily touched up if scratches or minor damage occur, helping maintain the appearance of your door over time. Powder-coated finishes, on the other hand, are much more difficult to repair once damaged.

For this reason, all PINKYS steel doors and windows feature a painted finish, providing customers with a beautiful, durable surface that is easier to maintain throughout the life of the product.

Can I order a custom color for my steel door or window?

Yes, custom colors are available through the PINKYS custom design department.

If you are looking to match a specific architectural palette or design concept, our team can work with you to create a custom painted finish for your steel door or steel window system. Custom color orders may involve an additional cost and extended production timelines.

To begin the process, simply submit your information through our custom design inquiry form, and a member of the PINKYS team will contact you to help design your custom door or window.

Size

Can I order a steel door or window in a size that is not listed?

Yes. PINKYS offers fully custom steel doors and steel windows that can be manufactured to match the exact dimensions you need. If you do not see the size you are looking for on our website, our custom department can help design a door or window to fit your project.

Simply visit our custom order page and submit your information. A specialist from the PINKYS team will contact you to discuss your measurements, design preferences, and available customization options.

Does the listed size refer to the door or the frame?

The listed size for most PINKYS steel doors refers to the overall frame dimensions. All of our doors are built with their own handcrafted steel frame, which is included with the product and designed specifically for proper installation.

In the case of barn doors, the measurement shown refers to the size of the door slab itself rather than the frame.

What is the size of the actual door if the listed measurement is the frame?

For standard PINKYS steel doors, the door slab is slightly smaller than the frame to allow for proper clearance and smooth operation.

Typically, the door is two inches shorter in height and two inches narrower on each side compared to the frame measurement.

How tall is the split on Dutch steel doors?

The split height of a Dutch steel door depends on the overall height and the specific door style.

For Air 4, Air 5, and Air Lite Dutch doors, the upper and lower sections are generally designed to be equal in height with a centered split.

For the Air Getty Dutch door, the lower section is intentionally smaller than the upper portion. The lower door section typically ranges between 37 inches and 44 inches tall depending on the overall door height.

Can Dutch steel doors be made with two bore holes?

Yes. The Air Getty Dutch door comes standard with two bore holes.

The Air 4, Air 5, and Air Lite Dutch doors typically include one bore hole, but they can be special ordered with two bore holes as long as the overall door height exceeds 84 inches.

If my contractor remeasures the rough opening, will the estimate change?

Yes. Pricing for steel doors and steel windows is based on the overall size of the product. If updated measurements increase the total square footage, the estimate may increase accordingly. If the new measurements reduce the overall size, the price may decrease.

Providing accurate measurements from the beginning helps ensure the most precise quote possible.

What is a rough opening measurement?

A rough opening is the framed space within a wall where a door or window will be installed. This measurement represents the unfinished structural opening before the door or window frame is placed.

Knowing the correct rough opening size is essential for ensuring that your steel door or steel window fits properly and installs securely.

What happens if my rough opening measurement is incorrect?

If the rough opening is too small, the steel door or window frame may not fit into the opening. If it is too large, gaps may occur around the frame that can create installation challenges or reduce energy efficiency.

Ensuring accurate rough opening measurements helps prevent installation issues and ensures a proper fit for your PINKYS steel doors and windows.

What is the most common single steel front door size?

There is no single universal standard because rough openings vary between homes and architectural designs. However, several sizes are commonly used for single steel front doors.

Popular sizes include 36” by 81”, 36” by 96”, and 42” by 96”.

At PINKYS, all steel doors can also be manufactured to custom dimensions to match your specific project.

Can I order a steel door if my opening is not perfectly square?

Yes. In many cases, professional installers can correct minor irregularities in a rough opening during installation by using shims to level and square the frame.

Even if the opening is slightly uneven, it is still important to take accurate measurements so that the steel door frame fits properly within the opening.

Can PINKYS help confirm my measurements before ordering?

Yes. The PINKYS team can help review and confirm your rough opening measurements before you finalize your order. While we do not offer onsite measuring services, our specialists can guide you through the measuring process to ensure your steel door or steel window is sized correctly for installation.

How thick are PINKYS steel doors?

The thickness of our steel doors varies depending on the specific design and construction method. Most PINKYS steel doors range between 1.5 inches and 2.5 inches thick.

This construction provides strength, durability, and a solid architectural feel.

How thick are PINKYS steel windows?

Steel windows offered by PINKYS typically range from 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches in thickness depending on the window style, design, and materials used.

This range allows for both fixed and operable steel windows while maintaining structural integrity and a slim profile.

How do I measure for steel French doors?

Measuring for steel French doors follows the same process used for single steel doors. First, measure the rough opening of the space where the doors will be installed.

Then subtract one inch from both the width and the height of the rough opening. The resulting measurement will be the net size used to order your PINKYS steel French door system, including the frame.

Can steel windows be made in very narrow sizes?

Small and narrow steel windows can often be manufactured, but there are certain limitations due to the glass tempering process.

Each individual piece of glass must meet minimum size requirements in order to be tempered safely. Because of this, grid layout and window design may influence whether a particular narrow window size can be produced.

What widths are available for steel folding doors?

PINKYS steel folding doors, also known as bi-fold accordion doors, can be manufactured in a wide range of sizes.

Typical systems start around 84 inches wide and can extend to more than 15 feet depending on the configuration and number of panels used.

How wide can a single steel swinging front door be?

A typical single steel swinging door can be manufactured up to approximately 48 inches wide. For openings wider than this, a double door configuration is often recommended to ensure proper operation and long-term durability.

Are there height limits for steel doors?

Steel doors can be manufactured in a variety of heights depending on structural considerations and materials. For projects requiring taller openings, PINKYS can incorporate fixed panels or transom windows above the door.

These additional panels attach to the door frame to create a larger architectural statement while maintaining proper structural support.

Can steel windows be made in non-square shapes?

Yes. PINKYS can manufacture custom steel windows in a variety of shapes depending on the design and materials used.

Common non-rectangular options include arch windows, circular windows, oval designs, and other specialty shapes that complement unique architectural styles.

Glass

Does the glass come protected or with a film?

Yes. All PINKYS steel doors and steel windows arrive with a protective film on the glass. This film should remain in place until the door or window is fully installed and ready for use. Removing the film after installation helps prevent scratches and maintains the pristine appearance of the glass.

Is the glass tempered?

Yes. All standard glass in our steel doors and steel windows is tempered for safety and durability. Only very small panes used in custom orders may not be tempered due to size limitations.

What are the benefits of tempered glass?

Tempered glass offers several advantages for steel doors and windows.

  • Safety: If broken, tempered glass shatters into small, rounded pieces rather than sharp shards, reducing the risk of injury.
  • Strength: Tempered glass is stronger than standard glass because it undergoes a heating and chemical-strengthening process. This makes it ideal for high-traffic areas or entryways where durability is important.

How thick is the glass?

Glass thickness varies depending on the product type.

  • For exterior steel doors and doors with frosted glass, each pane in our double-paned units is 5mm thick, with an insulating space between panes.
  • For interior steel doors, each single-pane unit is typically 10mm thick.

Do you offer energy-efficient or NFRC-rated glass?

Yes. Many PINKYS steel doors and windows are available with energy-efficient glass options, including NFRC-certified products and Energy Star-rated doors. Depending on the configuration, U-factors can be as low as 0.21, helping reduce energy costs while maintaining comfort.

What is Low-e glass?

Low-e glass, or low-emissivity glass, has a microscopically thin metallic coating that reduces the amount of heat transferred through the glass. This coating helps keep heat on the side of the glass from which it originated, improving energy efficiency in both summer and winter.

What are the benefits of Low-e glass?

Low-e glass provides several advantages:

  • Improved energy efficiency: It reduces heat loss in winter and limits heat gain during cooling seasons.
  • Reduced condensation: Low-e glass minimizes water condensation on the glass surface during colder months, preventing moisture buildup and related issues.

What is dual-pane glass?

Dual-pane, or double-glazed, glass features two sheets of glass separated by a narrow insulating gas layer. This design provides better thermal performance, increased energy efficiency, and improved sound insulation compared to single-pane glass.

Do you offer privacy or decorative glass?

Yes. PINKYS offers a variety of privacy and decorative glass options for both steel doors and steel windows. Standard options include low-e glass for exterior doors and clear glass for interior doors. Additional decorative options include Frosted, Ribbed, Rain, Flemish, Aquatex, Ford Blue, Wood, and Diamond glass.

Can Dutch steel doors have operable glass?

The Air Getty Dutch door can be ordered with operable glass. Other Dutch door models cannot include operable glass, but custom orders may allow unique solutions. Customers should contact the PINKYS custom department for special requests.

Do you offer door screens?

Yes. Removable screens are available for our Iron Door collection with operable glass panels for both standard-sized and custom steel doors. Air Series doors do not have a screen option available.

Is your glass single-pane or dual-pane?

Interior steel doors and windows use single-pane tempered glass. Exterior steel doors and windows come standard with dual-pane tempered glass, consisting of two panes separated by a spacer. Triple-pane glass is available on select products through our custom order team.

What happens if the glass breaks?

All PINKYS glass panes, interior and exterior, are replaceable. Professional glass installers can replace damaged panes, and our support team provides guides and videos to help customers navigate the process.

Is tempered glass required in steel doors?

While tempered glass is not always legally required, it is highly recommended for safety. PINKYS uses tempered glass in all steel doors. Its strength and shattering characteristics provide added protection and peace of mind.

Can I get privacy glass for steel windows?

Yes. PINKYS steel windows can be customized with privacy glass, including frosted, textured, or tinted options. These provide privacy without compromising natural light or modern style.

Can steel windows be double-glazed?

Does the glass come pre-installed?

Most PINKYS steel doors and windows are shipped with pre-glazed glass. For some custom products, on-site glazing may be required. Your sales representative will provide details during the custom order process.

How do I clean the glass?

PINKYS recommends using our Iron + Steel Clean Protect Spray, formulated for both steel and glass surfaces. This product safely removes dirt and maintains the integrity of the glass and frame.

Can I add window grids or muntins to glass in steel doors?

Yes. Grid patterns or muntins must be specified before the order so that the door or window can be manufactured with the design in place.

Can I get colored glass in steel windows?

While we do not provide fully colored glass, we offer a variety of tempered glass textures and privacy options. Certain models, like Ford Blue, add a subtle reflective blue hue, enhancing aesthetic appeal.

How much does double or triple glazing cost?

Double-pane tempered glass is standard for all exterior doors and windows. Triple-pane glass is available as a custom option, and pricing varies based on glass type and size. Your custom sales representative will provide detailed pricing during the order process.

How long does glass last in steel doors and windows?

Jamb

What is jamb size?

Jamb size refers to the thickness of the door frame. This measurement corresponds to the thickness of the wall where the door or window will be installed and ensures a proper fit.

How do I measure my jamb?

To measure the jamb, measure from the outermost exterior surface—such as stucco, brick, concrete, or wood—to the interior drywall. This measurement provides the accurate depth needed for proper installation.

Is the jamb the same as the door frame?

The jamb refers specifically to the vertical components of the door frame. At PINKYS, exterior door jambs are welded together with the header and threshold to form the complete door frame for a fully functional, pre-hung door.

Is the jamb galvanized?

All PINKYS steel door and window jambs are treated with a galvanized steel mix before painting, protecting against corrosion and extending the lifespan of the frame.

What material is the door frame made of?

PINKYS uses cold-rolled, galvanized mixed steel for all door frames, exceeding industry standards for strength, durability, and long-lasting performance.

How are exterior door jambs insulated?

Exterior steel door jambs are fully insulated with polyurethane foam. This includes the top and sides of the frame, as well as any fixed side windows, providing excellent thermal efficiency and energy savings.

What type of hinges do you use?

PINKYS uses welded steel bullet hinges with grease fittings. These include copper crush washers, which act as the soft point and are easily replaceable. Unlike stainless steel ball-bearing hinges, which can wear over time against steel doors, these hinges offer long-term durability while maintaining smooth operation.

Measuring

Will PINKYS come measure my doorway or window?

PINKYS does not offer onsite measuring services. However, we provide detailed measuring guidelines so that homeowners or contractors can accurately measure for steel doors and steel windows prior to ordering.

Do I need a contractor to measure my opening?

No, a contractor is not required to take measurements. Many customers choose to measure on their own using our provided guidelines, while others prefer to have a contractor handle the process for added confidence and accuracy.

How do I measure for a steel door when my opening is down to the studs?

If you have a rough opening with no existing door or frame installed, measure the width and height of the opening using a tape measure. The rough opening should be approximately one inch wider and one inch taller than the door size to allow space for leveling and proper installation.

To determine your door size, subtract one inch from the rough opening height and one inch from the width.

When selecting a size from available options, rounding down is typically acceptable. If you need to round up, it is recommended to consult with a contractor before proceeding. Please see video here.

For barn doors, the recommended size is two inches wider and one inch taller than the finished opening.

Can I measure for a new steel door if I already have one installed?

Yes. If an existing door and frame are in place, you can remove the interior trim to measure the rough opening from stud to stud. Alternatively, measure the inside width and height of the existing jamb.

After measuring inside the jamb, add approximately 1.5 inches to each side to estimate the rough opening. Then subtract one inch from the height and one inch from the width to determine the correct door size for your new steel door. Please see video here.

As with all measurements, rounding down to the nearest available size is generally acceptable. If rounding up is required, consulting a contractor is recommended.

How do I measure for a steel window?

If you are working with a rough opening that does not have an existing window or frame, measure the width and height of the opening. The rough opening should be approximately one inch wider and one inch taller than the window size to allow for installation adjustments.

To determine the correct window size, subtract one inch from the height and two inches from the width of the rough opening.

How much overhang is required above a steel door?

Your door needs to have an overhang that is the same length asFor proper protection from weather exposure, it is recommended that the overhang above your exterior steel door projects out at least equal to the height of the door.

The width of the overhang should extend at minimum the doors width in both directions.

This helps shield the door and frame from rain, sun, and other environmental elements. its height.

Can I add a transom to a door I already have?

Yes, in many cases a transom window can be added above an existing door. This typically requires a structural beam between the door and the transom opening. If a beam is not present, modifications to the existing frame or structure may be necessary.

Consulting with a contractor or builder is recommended to ensure proper installation and structural support.

A minimum of two people is recommended for installing a steel door. Larger or heavier doors, such as double entry doors or oversized steel doors, may require additional assistance to ensure safe handling and proper installation.

Does PINKYS offer installation services?

No. PINKYS does not provide installation services. However, most customers are able to find qualified local contractors or installers experienced with steel doors and windows.

How are interior steel door frames mounted?

Interior steel door frames typically use a bolt-through mounting system. This allows the frame to be securely fastened directly to the rough opening, and also enables the connection of additional components such as sidelights and transoms when applicable.

Do your exterior steel doors include mounting tabs or a nailing fin?

Mounting methods vary depending on the product type.

Standard exterior steel doors include mounting tabs that are installed from the interior side. These tabs are inset to allow drywall to sit flush with the frame.

Exterior steel doors with thermal break, as well as all exterior steel windows, include a nailer flange that surrounds the unit for secure attachment to the structure.

How do you fix a steel door that is rubbing?

A steel door that rubs against the frame is typically caused by an uneven installation or structural settling over time. This issue can usually be resolved by re-shimming and leveling the frame to restore proper alignment.

If needed, the PINKYS support team can assist by guiding your installer through the adjustment process.

Shipping and Delivery

Do you ship to all 50 states?

Yes, PINKYS ships nationwide across the United States. Shipments to Hawaii are not handled directly by PINKYS and must be arranged by the customer through a freight forwarder. Palletizing fees will apply for these shipments.

What shipping methods do you use?

Most PINKYS steel doors and windows are shipped via flatbed freight. Each order is securely palletized to protect the product during transit.

We also offer customer pickup and local delivery for customers located within 100 miles of our warehouse and showroom in Vernon, California.

How long does it take to receive my order?

Lead times are listed on each product page and are kept up to date. In-stock products typically ship from our Los Angeles warehouse within approximately two weeks, excluding local delivery scheduling.

Flatbed scheduling times vary depending on seasonality, weather conditions, and carrier availability. Once your order has shipped, transit time generally ranges from 1 to 10 days depending on the destination. The driver will contact you approximately 24 hours prior to delivery.

How do flatbed deliveries work?

After your order is ready, a PINKYS representative will contact you to coordinate delivery details, including confirming your availability and ensuring you have the required manpower for unloading.

Once scheduled, it may take approximately one week or more for a flatbed carrier to pick up your order, depending on location, order size, and time of year. After pickup, the driver will provide a 24-hour delivery notice.

Delivery timing is estimated, and delays may occur due to road or weather conditions. Upon arrival, you will have approximately 30 to 45 minutes to unload your order. Most steel doors require at least two to three people for unloading, and larger orders may require additional help.

Customers are responsible for being present and prepared to unload. PINKYS is not responsible for any fees or delays caused by missed delivery or insufficient unloading arrangements.

Do you ship directly to builders or job sites?

Yes, PINKYS frequently ships directly to builders and job sites. Most deliveries outside of the local delivery area are completed via 40-foot flatbed trucks. Our logistics team coordinates all delivery details in advance to ensure the site is accessible and prepared.

Do you ship to Hawaii or Maui?

PINKYS does not ship directly to Hawaii, including Maui. However, we can palletize your order for pickup by a freight forwarder of your choice. The customer is responsible for arranging the forwarder, and we will coordinate directly with them for pickup from our Vernon, California warehouse.

How are steel doors packaged for delivery?

Steel doors are carefully packaged to prevent damage during transit. Door slabs are secured in wooden crates and protected with foam, clear wrap, and cardboard. Pre-hung frames are packaged separately using cardboard and bubble wrap to ensure added protection.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged?

All products should be inspected immediately upon delivery. If the doors or windows will not be installed right away, they should be unwrapped and stored indoors, leaning upright against a wall.

If any damages are found directly following delivery, please reach out to a PINKYS representative immediately with photos. After 3 days, PINKYS cannot be liable for any damages.

Keeping products indoors and protected from the elements is critical to maintaining their condition prior to installation.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs vary depending on your location and the size of your order. For the most accurate estimate, use the Shipping Estimator available on each product page before checkout.

Can you deliver to residential addresses?

Yes, PINKYS delivers to residential locations. Because steel doors are heavy, customers should ensure they have sufficient manpower available to safely unload the shipment upon arrival.

Do I need a forklift for delivery?

A forklift is not required for most deliveries. Hand unloading is the most common method. If a forklift is used, it must be equipped with extended forks, typically at least 8 feet long, to safely handle the size and weight of steel doors.

Most customers rely on a team of two to four people to manually unload their order.

Pickups

Can I fit a steel door or window in an SUV for pickup?

No. Steel doors and steel windows cannot be loaded into enclosed vehicles such as cars or SUVs. For safe loading and transport, you will need to arrive with an open bed pickup truck, trailer, or box truck that provides sufficient space for handling these large and heavy products.

Where do I pick up my order?

All pickup orders are fulfilled at the PINKYS warehouse located at:

2382 E 48th St
Vernon, CA 90058
United States

How long do I have to pick up my order?

Yes. To authorize another individual for pickup, reply to your order confirmation email with a photo of your ID and provide the full name of the person you are authorizing.

What do I need to bring for pickup?

You will need to provide your order number and a valid ID that matches the purchasing customer. This information is required to release your order.

Can I inspect my order before pickup?

Orders are not opened prior to pickup. All steel doors and windows are securely packaged to protect them during transport. Opening the packaging beforehand can compromise the integrity and safety of the materials.

Are steel doors pre-assembled for pickup?

All PINKYS doors are pre-hung, meaning they include both the door and its matching frame with hinges installed. However, most doors are packaged with the frame and door slab separated to make handling and transportation more manageable.

Any hardware, such as locks, will be packaged separately and must be installed on site.

Can I make changes to my order before pickup?

Yes. You may contact a PINKYS representative to request changes prior to pickup. Please note that any modifications may delay the availability of your order.

Is there a discount for choosing pickup instead of delivery?

There is no discount on the product price for pickup orders. However, you will avoid shipping and delivery fees by choosing to pick up your order directly.

Can I switch my order from delivery to pickup?

Yes. If you would like to change your order from delivery to pickup, contact a PINKYS representative. They can update your order and refund any applicable shipping or delivery fees.

Will I receive documentation at pickup?

Yes. You will receive an order confirmation after purchase. Once your order is picked up and the will call form is signed, you will receive a follow-up email that includes a copy of the signed form along with photos of your loaded order for your records.

Care

Are steel doors scratch resistant?

No. PINKYS steel doors are handmade and hand-painted, and while they are highly durable, they are not scratch-proof. Contact with sharp or rough surfaces can cause scratches to the finish, so care should be taken during use and handling.

How often should I clean my steel doors and windows?

Cleaning frequency will depend on your environment and how often the door is used. High-traffic areas or coastal climates may require more frequent cleaning due to exposure to oils, dirt, and salt in the air. In lower-traffic or milder environments, less frequent maintenance may be sufficient.

Using PINKYS Iron + Steel Clean Protect Spray regularly will help keep your steel doors and steel windows clean while also adding a layer of protection.

Do I need separate cleaners for glass and metal surfaces?

No. PINKYS  Iron + Steel Clean Protect Spray is designed to clean both glass and metal surfaces. It simplifies maintenance by providing an all-in-one solution that cleans and helps protect your door from environmental exposure.

What type of grease should I use for door hinges?

A standard white lithium grease is recommended for lubricating the hinges on PINKYS steel doors. The hinges are equipped with brass zerk fittings, allowing grease to be applied using a standard grease gun without removing the door from its frame.

Will steel doors rust?

With proper care and maintenance, PINKYS steel doors and steel windows are built to last for many years. While steel is strong and durable, the painted finish can naturally wear over time due to exposure to sunlight, moisture, and weather conditions. Maintaining the finish is key to preventing rust.

How can I prevent my steel door from rusting?

Regular maintenance is the best way to prevent rust. Cleaning your door and maintaining the protective finish will help preserve its appearance and durability. If any wear in the paint occurs, addressing it early will help prevent corrosion.

Using our Iron + Steel Clean Protect Spray can help protect the surface and extend the life of the finish.

Can steel doors handle coastal or salty air environments?

Yes. Steel doors can perform well in coastal environments when properly maintained. Salt and moisture in the air can increase the risk of corrosion, so more frequent cleaning is recommended in these areas.

Routine use of our Iron + Steel Clean Protect Spray will help remove salt buildup and maintain the integrity of the finish.

How do steel doors perform in humid climates?

Steel doors perform very well in humid environments when properly finished and maintained. PINKYS doors are constructed with durable coatings and insulated cores that help resist warping, swelling, and moisture-related issues.

Consistent cleaning and maintenance will help preserve both the appearance and performance of the door over time.

Are steel doors worth the investment?

Yes. Steel doors are a strong long-term investment for homeowners and builders looking for durability, security, and a modern appearance. They typically last longer than wood or fiberglass, resist warping and cracking, and provide enhanced protection.

While the initial cost may be higher, the longevity, low maintenance, and added curb appeal can make steel doors a cost-effective choice over time.

Can steel doors and windows help reduce noise?

Yes. Steel doors and windows can help reduce outside noise due to their tight-fitting frames and insulated cores. Features like polyurethane insulation and dual-pane glass help minimize sound transfer, creating a quieter and more comfortable indoor environment.

What makes a steel door more secure than a wood door?

Steel doors are significantly stronger than wood, making them more resistant to forced entry, warping, and environmental damage. Reinforced frames and tempered glass further enhance security, providing added peace of mind for both residential and commercial applications.

Are steel doors better for residential or commercial use?

Steel doors are suitable for both residential and commercial settings. They perform well in high-traffic environments such as offices and storefronts, while also providing a clean, modern look for home entryways.

What is the difference between steel and aluminum doors?

Steel doors are heavier, stronger, and more secure, making them ideal for entry points that require durability and protection. Aluminum doors are lighter and naturally resistant to corrosion, and they are often used for larger or more intricate designs, but they do not offer the same level of strength or impact resistance as steel.

Are steel doors more expensive than wood doors?

Steel doors generally have a higher upfront cost than wood doors. However, they offer greater long-term value due to their durability, low maintenance requirements, and resistance to environmental damage.

How can I tell if a steel door is high quality?

A high-quality steel door will feature solid construction, reinforced framing, durable finishes, and proper insulation. Smooth welds, consistent paint application, and premium materials are also indicators of a well-built product designed for long-term performance.

Are there energy-efficient steel doors available?

Yes. Many steel doors are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Features such as insulated cores, Low-E glass, and dual-pane glazing help reduce heat transfer and improve indoor temperature control, contributing to lower energy costs.

Do steel windows prevent drafts?

When installed correctly, steel windows create a tight seal that helps reduce air infiltration. Their precision-built frames and insulated glass contribute to improved energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

Can steel doors be used for both interior and exterior applications?

Yes. Steel doors are available for both interior and exterior use. Exterior doors include weatherproofing features such as insulation, thresholds, and weather stripping, while interior doors are designed for indoor environments without exposure to the elements.

Do steel doors increase home resale value?

Yes. Steel doors can enhance a home’s resale value by improving security, durability, and overall appearance. Their modern design and long-lasting performance can make a property more appealing to potential buyers.

Can steel doors be customized?

Yes. Steel doors can be fully customized with various designs, glass configurations, and decorative elements. Custom options allow homeowners and designers to create a unique entryway that matches their style while maintaining the strength and durability of steel construction.
