Double Pane with Laminate for Custom Steel Windows & Doors

This construction is specified for exterior openings where breakage safety, sound transfer, and UV transmission are a concern, such as ground-floor storefronts, street-facing openings, or projects with security, acoustic, or code-driven glazing requirements in a conditioned space. 

On its own, a standard double pane IGU is built for thermal performance: two panes, sealed cavity, Low-E coating. Swapping one of those panes for a laminated lite adds a second job to the same assembly, without giving up the thermal performance:

• Stays in place after breakage. In an exterior opening, that matters most at ground or at street level, where a broken lite is a real hazard. The laminated pane keeps the opening closed until it's serviced.
• Offers higher penetration resistance than tempered glass alone, for the same reason. Studio Steel does not currently hold a specific forced-entry rating (such as ASTM F588) for its assemblies; where a project requires a certified rating rather than laminated construction's general properties, confirm current testing status with the sales team.
• Cuts sound transmission beyond what an equivalent standard lite manages. Worth specifying on any conditioned opening facing traffic, transit, or other consistent exterior noise, since the insulating cavity alone isn't built to solve that problem.
• Filters a substantial portion of UV transmission, on top of the Low-E coating already standard on double pane. Relevant where the opening faces direct, sustained sun and fading of interior finishes is a concern.
