Single-Pane Glass for Custom Steel Windows & Doors
Single pane glass is a single lite with no insulating cavity.
Single pane is specified for interior applications, historic restoration work, and non-thermally-demanding environments, such as loft partitions and interior steel screens.
Interior openings don't carry the thermal load that exterior openings do, which is why single pane remains a practical, lower-cost specification in these settings.
Paired with decorative or privacy glasses, a single-pane configuration offers a range of options for partitions and barriers that allow for the transmission of light while creating visual separation.
Many historic steel windows and doors were originally built with single-pane glass, since insulated glass units weren't part of the period vocabulary. Specifying single pane on a restoration project keeps the profile and glazing proportions consistent with the original design intent, where that's the goal.
Single pane glass can be specified as TDL or SDL, and like every Studio Steel assembly, a single pane lite is tempered as standard. For interior applications, Studio Steel uses Clear, rather than Low-E glass, unless a tinted or textured glass is specified.

For exterior applications in conditioned spaces, double pane is the standard specification.
Single pane is available across every Studio Steel system, however it is not recommended for thermally broken windows and doors.
Thermally broken systems are engineered around an insulated glazing unit to reduce energy transfer. Single pane glass has no insulating cavity, so it works against the purpose of a thermally broken frame. It's technically available on these systems, but uncommon.
