What Is Divided Lite?

Divided lite refers to a multi-pane window or door appearance: glass divided into a grid of smaller sections rather than one continuous lite. Studio Steel offers two construction methods that produce this appearance, True Divided Lite (TDL) and Simulated Divided Lite (SDL), plus the component that makes TDL possible, Push Beads.

TDL is the authentic, historically accurate construction, built for restoration work and projects where genuine shadow lines and period-correct detailing are the priority. SDL delivers the same divided-lite appearance with lower material and labor cost, simpler long-term maintenance, and full IGU thermal performance across the glazed area.
