The W40 profile, thermally broken.
W50 Frame and Profile Data
Maximum unit sizing and threshold dimensions are available on request from the PINKYS Studio Steel team.
| Steel Type | Glazing Capacity | Thermal Break | NFRC whole-window U-factor | Title 24 compliance | Glazing options | Applications | Maximum Unit Sizing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mm cold-formed steel | Up to 38 mm unit thickness | High-density cast-in polyurethane isolator | 0.21 to 0.39 (lowest with triple-pane glazing, configuration-dependent) | Meets the 2025 prescriptive fixed-fenestration maximum (0.27–0.30 by climate zone) in dual-pane configurations; triple-pane exceeds it. | SB70; dual-pane and triple-pane IGU configurations up to 38 mm | Interior and exterior | Contact the PINKYS Studio Steel team |
Glazing Options Within the 38 mm Capacity
W50 TB accepts a broader range of IGU configurations than the W40, including dual-pane and triple-pane assemblies suited to prescriptive energy code compliance, plus dual-pane glazing with a laminated lite. Triple-pane configurations deliver the lowest whole-window U-factors in the system. Triple-pane and laminated glazing are each available, but not combined; laminated glazing is offered as a dual-pane build-up only.
| Glazing Type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Dual-pane IGU | Double-pane sealed units up to 38 mm total thickness. The deeper W50 TB pocket accommodates a wider range of IGU configurations than the W40. Configuration determines the final NFRC U-factor within the certified range. |
| Triple-pane IGU | Three-pane sealed units, for example 5 mm glass with 9.5 mm spacers, totaling 34 mm within the 38 mm capacity. Triple-pane configurations achieve the lowest NFRC whole-window U-factors in the system, as low as 0.21 in fixed window assemblies. |
| SB70 | High-performance low-e coating available across W50 TB dual-pane and triple-pane IGU configurations. Visit the glass options page for detail. |
| Dual pane with laminate | A dual-pane IGU with one laminated lite, for safety, acoustic, or security requirements. Available in PVB or SGP interlayer configurations. Not available as a triple-pane build-up; laminated glazing in the W50 TB is offered dual-pane only. |
W50 TB is available in six opening configurations across windows, doors, and fixed glazing. False muntin profiles are available for simulated divided-lite details.

NFRC Certified Performance by Configuration
NFRC whole-window figures for the W50 TB with SB70 low-e glazing, by opening type and pane count. Air leakage is 0.3 cfm/ft² across all configurations.
| Configuration | U-factor | SHGC | VT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed window, dual-pane SB70 | 0.30 | 0.20 | 0.46 |
| Fixed window, triple-pane SB70 | 0.21 | 0.15 | 0.29 |
| Casement window, dual-pane SB70 | 0.38 | 0.19 | 0.42 |
| Casement window, triple-pane SB70 | 0.31 | 0.13 | 0.24 |
| Swing door, dual-pane SB70 | 0.35 | 0.20 | 0.46 |
| Swing door, triple-pane SB70 | 0.26 | 0.13 | 0.26 |
U-factor, SHGC (solar heat gain coefficient), and VT (visible transmittance) are NFRC whole-window figures. Triple-pane configurations deliver the lowest U-factors across every opening type; fixed windows with triple-pane SB70 reach the system low at 0.21. Project-specific certified data is available on request.
W40 Sightlines. No design change required.
The W50 TB shares the exact sightlines of the W40. Projects that specify the W40 profile and later require thermal compliance can switch to the W50 TB without altering the design drawings; the frame reads identically from inside and outside.
NFRC certified, as low as 0.21 with triple-pane glazing.
A high-density polyurethane isolator is cast directly into the steel profile, separating the outer and inner steel sections. It is what makes the W40 sightlines NFRC-certifiable: it reduces thermal conductance through the frame, opens glazing capacity to 38 mm including triple-pane assemblies, and delivers whole-window U-factors from 0.21 to 0.39 by opening type and glazing build-up. See the NFRC performance table above for figures by configuration.
Dual-pane configurations meet the 2025 Title 24 residential prescriptive maximum of 0.27 to 0.30 (by climate zone); triple-pane configurations exceed it. For operable configurations and residential prescriptive paths, the Studio Steel team provides project-specific NFRC data and confirms the compliance path for the project climate zone and opening configuration. Custom configurations can achieve lower U-factors where the project requires it.
NFRC data, CAD drawings, hardware confirmation.
The PINKYS Studio Steel team works through the W50 TB specification one on one: climate zone, opening sizes, glazing configuration, and compliance path. PINKYS produces architecturally detailed CAD drawings for every opening.
