What are Push Beads?

Push beads are what separate and hold individual glass panes in a True Divided Lite (TDL) assembly, creating the true lite divide. See True Divided Lite (TDL) for the full construction this component belongs to. If a pane of glass is damaged, the push beads can be removed and re-installed, so that pane can be replaced individually rather than replacing the entire door's glass. Push beads are specific to TDL construction. If a project instead calls for Simulated Divided Lite (SDL), which achieves the divided-lite appearance without physically separate panes, push beads don't apply; see Simulated Divided Lite (SDL) for that alternative.

TDL construction means more individual seals across an opening than a single-IGU build. The use of push beads means each pane is mechanically held rather than permanently bonded, so a single damaged pane can be serviced without disturbing the rest of the assembly.

Push beads have a slim profile. Interior doors use a standard 19mm push bead, exterior doors 25mm. Studio Steel offers a range of push bead cross-sections to suit different projects; the drawing below shows the full set with dimensions for reference.

Each pairs a flat bar on the exterior face with a beveled or contoured bead on the interior, sitting between the glass panes.
