Steel Profile Systems

Steel systems for custom doors and windows, specified to the project.

PINKYS builds custom steel doors and windows using 6 premium systems across three system families: Ottostumm, Jansen, and PINKYS Air Series. Available in hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled thermally broken steel, fabricated steel, and tubular steel constructions, our systems support residential and commercial projects of every scale. System selection impacts material character, thermal performance, construction method, glazing capacity, and overall configuration possibilities. Our range includes thermally broken solutions achieving U-values as low as 0.21 for whole-window triple glazing and 0.26 for whole-door triple glazing, with maximum glazing capacities up to 56 mm. Explore the chart below to compare each system by material, thermal break, construction, glazing capacity, and best fit.

W20

Ottostumm FerroFinestra · Hot-rolled solid steel
Finest available profile
W20 pushes steel to its limits. With profiles just 3–5 mm thick, it is the thinnest option, maximizing glass and light. For interior glazing and sightline-critical exterior applications in temperate climates, it sets the standard.
Solid hot-rolled steel, no thermal break. Glazing up to 21 mm. Glazing up to 21 mm.
Max glazing: 21 mm | Thermal break: None | Steel: Hot-rolled, 3–5 mm

W40

Ottostumm FerroFinestra · Hot-rolled solid steel
Slim profile
W40 pairs slender hot-rolled steel profiles with double glazing up to 31 mm, making it ideal for most residential and commercial applications in temperate climates. A versatile system for both interior and exterior use.
Solid hot-rolled steel, no thermal break. Glazing up to 31 mm.
Max glazing: 31 mm | Thermal break: None | Steel: Hot-rolled, 3–5 mm

W50 TB

Ottostumm FerroFinestra · Thermally broken · Cold-formed steel
Thermally broken
W50 TB combines the FerroFinestra design language with enhanced thermal performance. Its cold-formed steel profile incorporates a high-density polyurethane thermal break and accommodates glazing up to 38 mm for improved energy and acoustic performance. Available across the full range of PINKYS custom Studio Steel window, door, and curtain wall systems.

Janisol Arte 2.0

Jansen · Thermally broken · Insulated composite steel
Thermally broken
Jansen Janisol Arte 2.0 pairs slender thermally broken steel profiles with high thermal performance, making it well suited to heritage refurbishment and contemporary projects where slim steel sightlines and modern energy requirements must coexist. An alternative solution for exterior windows and doors.

Air Series Tubular Steel

PINKYS · Tubular steel
Not thermally broken · Interior & exterior Our slimmest tubular steel profile at its price point.
Air Series is PINKYS's own tubular steel line, built to bring a slim, premium steel aesthetic to projects where budget considerations make Ottostumm systems unsuitable. It is not thermally broken. Air Series is our best in class for the price point it sits at: a genuinely slim profile without Ottostumm-level cost, for projects where budget is a real constraint but a heavy, off-the-shelf steel look is not acceptable.

Frequent Questions

The lowest published figure is a whole-window NFRC U-factor as low as 0.21, achieved on the W50 TB fixed window with triple-pane glazing. The W50 TB certified range is 0.21 to 0.39 for windows and 0.26 to 0.35 for doors, driven primarily by operability and glazing configuration. Within windows, fixed units certify from 0.21 to 0.30 and operable casements from 0.31 to 0.39, with fixed outperforming operable at every glazing level. For any opening, U-factor is assembly-dependent and lower figures are achievable depending on glazing and configuration. Contact our team for project-specific NFRC data.
On interior work the thermal break earns its place through condensation control and design consistency rather than energy code. It controls condensation on interior glazing where a partition separates zones at different temperature or humidity, including pool enclosures, spas, conservatories, and wine rooms. The deeper thermally broken profiles also carry thicker and laminated glazing, up to 56 mm in W75 TB, which supports acoustic and high-performance glass build-ups on interior partitions. And on projects where interior and exterior openings sit in sightline of one another, specifying a thermally broken system throughout lets the interior profiles match the exterior ones exactly. Hot-rolled W20 and W40 remain the right call for standard interior partitions where none of these conditions apply and the finest possible sightline is the priority.
Glazing capacity is often the deciding spec on high-performance openings. Hot-rolled W20 takes up to 21 mm and W40 up to 31 mm, which covers most double-glazed and slim IGU work. Thermally broken W50 TB takes up to 38 mm, and W75 TB up to 56 mm, the widest in the range, which is what you need for triple glazing, thick laminated glass build-ups, or high-performance IGUs on large spans. If your target IGU exceeds a system's capacity, that ceiling forces the step up to the next system rather than a glazing substitution, so confirm the IGU spec early. Full glazing figures are on each system's spec page.
