Iron Doors and Windows in Star, Idaho

Star, Idaho gained its name from a star on the schoolhouse building used to determine directions and the name caught on ever since. People coming from the Boise Basin mines would find refuge, food and rest in the area, courtesy of the efforts of Ben F. Swalley. In the late 1800s, the area would see some crucial development in the form of the schoolhouse, two churches, a hotel and half a score of residences being built. People and workers from neighboring areas would continue to use it as a resource on their travels, resting, picking up utilities and being on their way.

The early 1900s were some of the most progressive years for the area, leading to a boom in development. After Boise, Idaho, Star would become the most populated area in the region. Proper law and order was established in the same time, with a mayor, constable and marshal assigned to keep the peace. People would find further utility and livelihood with the establishment of the Star Creamery, Conway Hotel, and El Dorado Lumber Company. With various irrigation systems thanks to the Pioneer Canal and Canon Canal, there was a good production of alfalfa, sugar beets along with wheat and oats.

Modern day Star, Idaho is a picturesque wonder that’s the perfect blend of modernity and tradition. The area has stuck to its agricultural roots and continues farming traditions, thanks to a fresh supply of water and fertile land.
