Santa Clarita is a city in Los Angeles County that is located about 30 miles north of Los Angeles. The city, which was incorporated in 1987, is a pleasing mix of suburban homes, commercial business zones and ample parks. Santa Clarita is one of the largest cities in the county because of land annexations, and it is comprised of communities Valencia, Canyon Country, Newhall and Saugus. The city offers a high quality of life for its residents through its many amenities such as a 70-mile network of pedestrian pathways that are constructed away from traffic. It also offers free concerts in parks and special classes at city recreation facilities and libraries. Santa Clarita continues to invest in its youth by outfitting recreation centers with skate parks, basketball courts, tennis courts, aquatic parks and soccer fields.
The city of Santa Clarita has done much to attract employers to the region so that it can continue to grow. It, like many other U.S. cities, designated commercial and industrial zones and offered tax breaks for companies that established a presence in those zones. Businesses and organizations that operate in the retail, aerospace, tourism, healthcare and education industries support Santa Clarita’s growing economy. Santa Clarita employers include Princess Cruises, Quest Diagnostics, Aerospace Dynamics International and Walmart.
Pinky’s Iron Doors Opens New Doors
While Santa Clarita was ranked as one of the top 100 cities in which to live in 2006, it also offers a fair amount of attractions for visitors. The area is blessed with plenty of sunshine, which makes its outdoor parks and recreational facilities even more appealing. For example, many families make Castaic Lake the center of their vacation activities. The large water reservoir and the park that surrounds it accommodates boating, fishing, mountain biking and tubing. Some notable early residents of Santa Clarita were associated with Western films and silent films. The self-guided Newhall Walking Tour allows visitors to get a glimpse of the area’s contributions to the development of the western frontier, the railroads and early Western cinema. Classic car enthusiasts enjoy Revved Up, which is the monthly car show that the city sponsors. Revved Up features different types of cars in its show each month, and the shows are always accompanied by live music and diverse food offerings.
Santa Clarita visitors also have opportunities to see the numerous new construction homes that are being built in the area. Builders are filling new communities with homes in the Santa Barbara, Monterey Colonial and American Farmhouse architectural styles. The Santa Barbara style homes capture the best of the Spanish Mission design and contemporary elegance with their distinctive archways, clay tile roofs and exquisite ironwork. Ornately crafted, luxury iron doors like the ones available at Pinky’s Iron Doors are often used at entryways and within the homes’ interiors.
