Installation Guide

Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth installation process. Use the Table of Contents below to jump directly to the section you need. Instructions must be followed for a valid warranty.

1. Warranty & Receiving

  1. Inspect your door immediately after delivery.
  2. Report any damage to Pinky’s Iron Doors Customer Service within 3 days of delivery.
  3. Keep all original packaging for potential returns.
⚠️ Do not install if damage is found. Once installed, doors cannot be returned.

2. Storage & Handling

  1. Handle doors with at least 2 people.
  2. Store in a dry, covered area with fabric padding.
  3. Remove packaging immediately; do not store with shipping materials.
  4. Keep doors dry and wipe away moisture promptly if found.
  5. Never leave doors uncovered until installation on a live jobsite.
✂️ Use scissors (not blades) when unpacking to avoid scratches.

3. Rough Opening Requirements

  1. Rough opening should be 1–2 inch wider and taller than the frame.
  2. Ensure the opening is plumb, level, and square on every side.
  3. Maintain at least 1 inch clearance around the frame.
  4. Exterior doors require an overhang and drip edge installed above the frame so water can be diverted away from the top.
⚠️ Waterproofing must be followed according to your local building codes. Always check with Sill pan manufacture specifications and instruction for sill pan installation.

4. Frame Installation

Before you start installing your door frame, make sure your rough opening is plumb, level, and square.

⚠️ Important:
  • Use only a 12-inch level when installing. Laser levels, and long levels are not sufficient on Pinkys Products.
  • Always use plastic shims; wood shims compress over time causing the doors to come out of alignment.
  • If using spray foam, it must be low-expanding spray foam and applied by a professional.
✅ Match door and frame using the same serial number to avoid alignment issues.

5. Door Panel Installation

Each hinge on our doors comes with a single brass washer. These washers are not meant to be used as shims.

To fix a door that isn’t closing smoothly:

  1. Recheck the frame’s level at each level point using your 12-inch level.
  2. Use plastic shims to adjust the leveling where needed.

Use petroleum grease on the bullet hinges to ensure smooth operation. Hang the door carefully and check for level and plumb alignment. Open and close the doors to cycle the panels few times. This allows the doors’ weight to settle. Then, re-check all your leveling points and make any necessary adjustments.

7. Care & Maintenance

  1. Vacuum away dust and debris after installation.
  2. Protect doors during construction with blue vinyl painter’s tape only.
  3. After construction or if project is delayed, remove tape and apply PINKYS Spray for a protective finish.
⚠️ Important:
  • Replace blue vinyl tape regularly if exposed to sunlight to prevent adhesive baking onto paint.
  • If duct tape is needed, apply blue painter’s tape first, then cover with duct tape.
  • Using any other tape directly can peel or bubble the paint.
✅ Regular maintenance keeps your doors functioning and looking perfect. Only use Pinkys Iron Door spray at least once a month to clean your doors and lubricate your hinges once a year depending on use to mitigate the risk of dryness.
Care & Maintenance: Removing residue left from stickers on glass surfaces properly.

8. Troubleshooting

If the door rubs, flexes, or locks do not align, check frame leveling with a 12-inch level, shim points, and clearance gaps (1 inch). Adjust hardware and shims as needed.
