Do you offer privacy or decorative glass?

Yes. We offer a selection of privacy and decorative glass types that offer a range of levels of privacy.

Our doors and windows come standard with Low-e glass on exterior products and Clear glass on interiors products. Customers can also choose Frost, Ribbed, Rain, Flemish, Aquatex, Ford Blue, Wood, and Diamond glass.

Do you offer door screens?

Yes. Doors with removable screens are available as Standard Sizes and Custom products only.

Is the listed size for the door or the frame?

were made to be hung on.

**In the case of barn doors the measurement you see is the size of the door itself.

How big is the actual door if this is the measurement of the frame?

Our standard steel doors are 1 inch smaller on the height and 1 inch smaller on each side of the frame.

How do I determine door swing?

Swing is determined from the exterior side.

The most common swing options are Right Hand In (RHI), Right Hand Out (RHO), Left Hand In (LHI) and Left Hand Out).

The direction listed refers to the side of the door the hinges are on, and on double doors also refers to the active door.

For example:

What is a “RHI” Right Hand In Swing if I have a double door?

You are facing the door standing outside, the exterior side of the door. The handle or lock will be on your left side, the hinges will be on the interior right side of the door and the door will swing towards the inside from left to right. When the door is at its open position, the door will be resting on the right interior side.

What is a “LHO” Left Hand Out Swing if I have a single door?

You are facing the door standing outside, the exterior side of the door. The handle or lock will be on your right side, the hinges will be on the exterior left side of the door and the door will swing towards the outside from right to left. When the door is at its open position, the door will be resting on the left exterior side.

What is a jamb?

A door jamb refers to the thickness of your door frame. This is not the frame itself, but is solely the measurement of how thick the door frame is; this should correlate with how thick the wall you’re mounting the door to is.

How do I measure my jamb?

The goal is to get the measurement from the outermost finishing of your exterior (stucco, brick, concrete, wood, etc.) to the drywall inside.

Is the jamb included with the door?

Yes, the threshold is an important component of the frame, which comes welded together.

What type of hinges do you use?

Steel weld-on bullet hinges with grease fittings come welded on jamb and door. We use welded steel bullet hinges with copper crush washers instead of a ball bearing hinge because ball bearings are made out of stainless steel (hard material) and the hinges/doors are made out of steel (softer material) which over time causes the hinge to wear. With copper crush washers, the washer is the soft point and they are easily replaceable over time if needed.

Do you offer locks & are they included with a door purchase?

Yes, we do offer a wide variety of locks. Locks are sold separately.

What are your bole hole lock specs?

Bore hole specs vary from door to door.

In order to ensure you purchase a lockset compatible with your door, please refer to the informational popup on product page for the door you intend to purchase entitled “Help Me Understand Sizes” in the Lock Specs tab.

Will PINKYS come and measure my doorway or window?

Unfortunately we do not do home visits, however we do have the information needed for you or a contractor to make the correct measurements needed.

Do I need a contractor to measure for me?

No, you do not, however some people are more comfortable having their contractor make the measurement.

How do I measure for my door?

If you have a rough opening (no door or door frame installed), use a measuring tape to get the measurements of the height and the width.

Your rough opening should be 2 inches wider and 1 inch taller than the door’s measurements in order to account for leveling of the door and the frame. It is very important that 1 inch is left on the top and each side. Once you get your rough opening size, subtract 1 inch from the height and 2 inches from the width, and that will be your door size. If you are measuring a door that already has another door frame in it’s place, follow the instructions at the beginning of the video here.

If you are measuring a door that already has another door frame in its place, you can either take off the upper door trim and measure from the edge of each stud, which will get you your rough opening size as outlined above, or you can measure from the inside of your door jamb to the other side and one from the floor to the top of the inside of your door jamb. Once you get those measurements, add an inch and ½ on each side and you’ll have your rough opening size. Subtract 1 inch from the height and 2 inches from the width, and you’ll have your door size from us.

With these measurements, go to our sizes and round to the nearest one. If the closest measurement we offer requires you to round down to our size, you should be able to move forward. If you must round up to our size, consult a contractor about the sizing, watch video.

How do I measure for my window?

If you have a rough opening (no window or window frame installed), use a measuring tape to get the measurements of the height and the width.

Your rough opening should be 2 inches wider and 1 inch taller than the window you're ordering in order to account for leveling of the door and the frame.

It is very important that 1 inch is left on the top and each side. Once you get your rough opening size, subtract 1 inch from the height and 2 from the width, and that will be your door size.

If you are measuring a window that already has another window frame in it’s place, follow the instructions at the beginning of the video above.

How much of an overhang do I need over my door?

Your door needs to have an overhang that is the same length as its height.

Do you have install guides?

Yes! We have video guides explaining each and every step of the process, as well as a full installation guide. The videos and the pdf will be provided to you with your door on easy to scan QR codes on our packaging.

Can I install it myself?

Yes, many people install our doors and other products themselves. We have many videos on our installation guide that outline each step of the process. We also have a very visually explanatory installation guide with diagrams and pictures.

Do you install?

No, we do not, however most of our clients do not have trouble finding a contractor local to them.

How many people do you typically need to install your doors?

We recommend at least 2 able-bodied people for your installation, depending on your door size this number should increase to avoid any complications.

How do interior door frames mount to the wall?

Most of our interior door frames, use a bolt through system that allows you to connect sidelights and transoms as well as mount frames, sidelights, and transoms to your rough opening.

Do you have mounting tabs or a nailing fin on the jamb to make the installation easier?

Yes. On our exterior doors, tabs come welded onto the jamb with predrilled holes to allow for easy installation.

Our interior doors use a bolt through system that allows you to connect sidelights and transoms as well as mount frames, sidelights, and transoms to your rough opening.

Our thermally broken doors are mounted using nailing fins on the frames.

Our doors with sidelights do not have mounting tabs on its sides like most of our other doors do. This frame bolts directly through the jamb into the sidelight. The sidelights and door will then be mounted to the rough opening using mounting tabs.

Our sliding doors mount to your rough opening by directly bolting through the frame.

Are these doors scratch resistant?

No, these doors are handmade and hand painted and will scratch from friction with sharp or rough surfaces.

How often should I clean my doors?

Our Iron Door Spray should be used frequently to clean and protect these doors. Each climate and area will require a different cleaning schedule. For instant, a high traffic door in a beach climate should be cleaned very often in order to wipe off the oils and salt deposits that occur. However, a low traffic door in another environment may require significantly less cleaning.

Do I need to use a different glass cleaner and metal cleaner separately?

No, our Iron Door Spray will seamlessly clean each surface of your door. This will both clean your door, and give a layer of protection from the sun.
