Each of our doors is hand painted. We offer both standard and classic colors such as Black, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Silver, and Pewter, as well as a revolutionary palette of colors inspired by the beautiful nature that surrounds us. Our "California Collection" consists of Palm Desert Sand, Montecito Mint, Angeles Green, and our Signature Sunset Pink.

Keep it classic, or explore a splash of color with our many different color options.

Type of paint

Whichever color you decide on, all of our doors are handmade, hand painted with durable automotive paint, and clear coated. These doors are not powder coated. Galvanizing spray is used to help provide greater protection against corrosion for the iron base. Primer and automotive paint are applied after the galvanizing spray process and then a clear coat is applied.

Because all of our products are hand made and painted, color may differ slightly from the photo. This ensures each order is one of a kind.

COATING THICKNESS

  • Spray Primer Thickness - Around 180 microns
  • Paint Color Thickness - Around 30 microns
  • Clear Coat Thickness - Around 30 microns

Spacer on Colored Products

When ordering your doors and windows in a color other than black, it is important to note that the spacer that fuses the glass panes together will will always be black, and will be visible from both and interior and exterior side or the product.

Cleaning and Touch-up

Touching up small scratches is fairly easy to do with our touch-up paint. With three different application tools included with our touch up paint, the main one we’ll use is the bottle nozzle. If you unscrew the lid, you’ll find a brush, however it will often apply FAR too much paint. By pulling the pin out of the nozzle from it’s red base, the pen-like nozzle will be free flowing. Wipe down the area where you will be touching up and make sure there’s no dirt, dust, or grease on the surface before starting. If the scratch is deep, you may need to sand the edges of it a little bit in order to even out the surface. For anything larger than a few inches, you’ll need to use a spray gun and will have to contact us for paint. Many contractors and painters in your area will likely be able to assist you with this if you ever need it done.

We currently do not carry touch-up pens for the following colors:

  • Sunset Pink
  • Montecito Mint
  • Angeles Green
  • Palm Desert Sand
  • Casual Khaki

If your finish is damaged, you will need to match the color at a local paint supplier.

black steel entry and patio doors for residential and commercial applications

What type of paint is used on these doors?
We use multiple coats of automotive grade on these galvanized steel doors after their welds have been galvanized, they are primed, and baked.  Once they’ve gone through this whole process, they are clear-coated and ready to ship.

Are these doors powder coated?
No, these doors are not powder coated. We instead use automotive grade paint.

Do i need a contractor to measure for me?
No, you do not, however some people are more comfortable having their contractor make the measurement. Please refer back the “How to measure” video or writing in the “Size” section if this informational pop-up.

Are these doors scratch resistant?
No, these doors are handmade and hand painted and will scratch from friction with sharp or rough surfaces.

How often should I clean my doors?
Our Iron Door Spray should be used frequently to clean and protect these doors. Each climate and area will require a different cleaning schedule. For instant, a high traffic door in a beach climate should be cleaned very often in order to wipe off the oils and salt deposits that occur. However, a low traffic door in another environment may require significantly less cleaning.

Can I get a custom color?
Yes, you are able to get a custom color through our custom department. There will be an additional cost for custom colors. Fill in your information HERE in order to speak with someone from our team to start the process of designing your custom door.

How do I measure for my door?

If you have a rough opening (no door or door frame installed), use a measuring tape to get the measurements of the height and the width.
Your rough opening should be 1 inch larger than the door’s measurements (1 bigger than the height and 1 bigger on the width) in order to account for leveling of the door and the frame. It is very important that 1/2 inch is left on the top and each side. Once you get your rough opening size, subtract 1 inch from the height and the width, and that will be your door size. If you are measuring a door that already has another door frame in it’s place, follow the instructions at the beginning of the video here.

If you are measuring a door that already has another door frame in its place, you can either take off the upper door trim and measure from the edge of each stud, which will get you your rough opening size as outlined above, or you can measure from the inside of your door jamb to the other side and one from the floor to the top of the inside of your door jamb. Once you get those measurement, add an inch and ½ on each side and you’ll have your rough opening size. Subtract 1 inch from each measurement, and you’ll have your door size from us.

With these measurements, go to our sizes and round to the nearest one. If the closest measurement we offer requires you to round up to our size, you should be able to move forward. If you must round down to our size, consult a contract about the sizing, watch video.

How much of an overhang do I need over my door?
Your door needs to have an overhang that is the same length as its height.

Can I measure for a new door if I currently have one in place?
Yes. If you are measuring a door that already has another door frame in it’s place, you can either take off the upper door trim and measure from the edge of each stud, which will get you your rough opening size as outlined above, or you can measure from the inside of your door jamb to the other side and one from the floor to the top of the inside of your door jamb.
