Whichever design you pick, the glass type will not affect the price of your door.
Each glass type will come with its texturing/coating on the outside of only the exterior pane of glass. Because we use double pane glass on these doors, you can have any door custom made with 2 different glass types on the interior and exterior panes.

glass low-e

Low-E Glass

Low-E Glass

Low-E Glass: Most of our doors come stock with Low-E glass. Low-E glass is completely see-through, but reflects heat and UV rays. It can appear as if it has a mirror finish if you’re looking at it from outside and the sun is at the right angle. When this happens, the glass can have a slight blue-ish hue. This effect does not happen as easily when looked at from the interior.

Frost/Sandblast

Frost/Sandblast

Frost/Sandblast: is great for granting a high level of privacy. The frosted surface creates a diffusion of light throughout the rooms it’s attached to. Defined shadows can still be cast onto this glass and seen from the outside if there is a strong light source inside.

Flemish

Flemish

Flemish: glass offers a small amount of distortion of images, however some large details may be visible at certain angles. This is not recommended for areas needing privacy, however the design will slightly distort both shape and light from one side to another. Especially at close proximity, visibility is high. However the further an object is away, the more it will distort the image.

Rain

Rain

Rain: features creases etched into the surface as well as a slight texturing on all of its surfaces. This is one of our most popular glass types. Although the glass looks very textured, as with all of our glasses, the texturing is on the inside exterior pane only.

Aquatex

Aquatex

Aquatex: has divots and is also textured all over it. This design offers moderate privacy.
In-home POV: If there is an ample amount of light, objects can be made out without any definition of details until the subject is close to the door.
Street view: Motion should be able to be seen with little definition of details from the street view.

Ribbed Glass

Ribbed Glass

Ribbed Glass: is great for spaces that you’d like to connect through light, however it offers a tremendous amount of privacy. This design looks especially good on our AIR series doors and is our most popular choice for people who would like privacy glass on an AIR door.

LOW-E

low-e glass

Low-e is not a privacy glass in any way. It only has a reflective mirror finish in very specific angles of light.
In-home POV: From inside, there should be not obstruction of vision to the outside.
Street view: In most circumstances, there should be no obstruction of vision from the outside, however if the door is in direct sunlight, there can appear to be a mirror-like finish.
Advantages: Energy saving
Disadvantages: not a privacy glass

Frost/Sandblast

Frost sandblast glass

Frost/Sandblast is great for granting a high level of privacy. With very low definition of visibility shown from one side to the other, diffused light is still able to pass through this glass. Defined shadows can still be cast onto this glass and seen from the outside.

In-home POV: standing inside your house, there would not be any way for you to see who is outside your door, so security cameras or another visible window would be necessary to check who’s at your door or on the street.

Street view: Whether you’re standing on the sidewalk or just a few feet from the door, you will not be able to see inside in the day or the night.

Flemish

Flemish glass

In-home POV: People walking on the street will not have much definition, however once they get closer, your view of them will get much clearer.
Street view: From the sidewalk, the view inside your home just be distorted images, however once you walk up the the house, the items in close proximity inside will become somewhat clear.

Rain

Rain glass

This glass offers little to no privacy in close proximity, as it will distort some definition, however shapes are generally easily distinguished when seen through this glass when the subject is within a few feet. Once objects get further away, their definition decreases only slightly.

In-home POV: Regardless of day or night, seeing objects more than 20 feet away will be somewhat distorted.

Street view: From the street or sidewalk, you should be able to see inside the house with some distortion of details.

Aquatex

Aquatex glass

Aquatex is one of our glass types that offers a moderate level of privacy. Distorting both shape and light with multiple textures on its surface, it offers some privacy from many angles, especially if objects are far behind it. Although it will distort shapes, light can still pass through it.

In-home POV: If there is an ample amount of light, objects can be made out without any definition of details until the subject is close to the door.

Street view: Motion should be able to be seen with little definition of details from the street view.

Ribbed Glass

Ribbed glass

Ribbed glass offers a tremendous amount of privacy. Shapes are almost completely undistinguished through ribbed glass and virtually no definition of objects can be seen through it.

In-home POV: With only light shining through and no visibility, you’ll need a security camera or another window in order to see who’s at the door.
Street view: If there is movement going on inside while the house is bright inside, you may be able to see that there’s motion, with no details.

This door features high quality double paned tempered glass, with each pane measuring 5mm thick, which means better energy saving, the same or better levels of noise insulation when compared to wood doors, and a higher level of security. Each double pane piece is sealed together with push beads, and securely installed in the steel frame.

Because we use such high quality materials, we’re able to keep these doors and their frames very slim, with very little obstruction of view from the lites, while keeping a high level of structural integrity. With this slim design, each pane must be fixed, and non-operable. If you’d like operable glass, you’ll need to get a custom design, or check out some of our iron doors with operable screens. If this is what you’re looking for, an AIR Series Dutch door may be the perfect choice for you. Check them out here!

True Divided Glass

Instead of one single piece of glass reaching from top to bottom with lites stuck on top of the glass, our glass features true light divide on this door, which means that each pane is a separate double paned tempered glass insert, fixed together with push beads. This is great for security, care, and maintenance if any single pane breaks.

How to clean your glass using our spray

The glass and its metal frame can be cleaned alongside the metal with our Iron Door Spray, or the glass can be cleaned using a microfiber towel with any ammonia free glass cleaner. This spray will clean and protect both the glass and the metal all at once. Spray our iron door spray onto your microfiber (and not directly onto the door) and rub the liquid onto the door until is evenly spreaded onto the surface. Spraying directly onto the door can more easily create streak marks. Do this to your whole door, to both the metal and the glass, and you’re done!

*DO NOT spray your door with water on the interior or the exterior to clean it.

What if my glass breaks?
Our AIR series steel doors are made with true light divide, which means separate panes of glass. If one of these panes gets damaged, it can be replaced without having to replace the whole doors or any of the other panes. If your glass does get damaged, email or call us to either purchase from us, or another glass provider (can they buy from someone else, however they may have trouble getting a perfect match).

Glass total thickness
This door features high quality double paned tempered glass, with each pane measuring 5mm thick, which means better energy saving, the same or better levels of noise insulation when compared to wood doors, and a higher level of security. Each double pane piece is sealed together with push beads, and securely installed in the steel frame.

Does tempered glass shatter? Is tempered glass safety glass?

Tempered glass is classified as a type of safety glass and will not break into large sharp pieces if it is broken. It is very resilient, however it is point sensitive and edge sensitive. Our steel frames secure and protect the edges of these panes, however, if a pointed object hits one of these glass panes hard enough, it will shatter. Tempered glass generally breaks into many small pieces that are usually less harmful and sharp than that of non-tempered glass.
