What Door Size Do I Need?
How to Measure
Measuring for your new interior barn door is going to require larger measurements than the opening itself, as these barn doors do not get inset into the rough opening, but rather cover a portion of the walls themselves on both sides as well as the top of the opening.
In order to provide sufficient coverage for your walls opening, you will want to order your barn door with a minimum of 4" of additional width and 1" of additional height when compared to the wall opening's dimensions.
All measurements should be taken with all finish work dimensions included.
Door Width: Measure from the left side of your wall opening to the right side of your wall opening, at its widest point (if the opening isn't perfectly square). Add a minimum of 4" to this number to get the width of your new PINKYS interior barn door.
EX: 36" (Wall opening width measurement) + 4" = 40" PINKYS interior barn door width
Door Height: Measure from the floor to the bottom of your wall opening, at its tallest point (if the opening isn't perfectly square). Add a minimum of 1" to this number to get the height of your new PINKYS interior barn door.
EX: 96" (Wall opening height measurement) + 1" = 97" PINKYS interior barn door height
What does Net Size Mean?
When ordering a new PINKYS interior barn door, it important to note that the net size of the barn door itself will need to be larger than the opening in which it will be covering.
The sizing displayed includes the amount of wall coverage on both sides as well as the top of your wall opening, which is known as the overall unit's net size.
The barn door track and rolling hardware will require additional clearance.
Wall & Ceiling Clearance Requirements
When ordering a new PINKYS interior barn door, you will need to make sure you have sufficient clearance above the barn door itself, as well enough width along the wall in which the barn door will be overlapping.
Wall Clearance: You will need to account for enough space along the wall in which the barn door will be sliding over in order for your barn door to open fully without interference. The minimum additional space required will be approximately the width of your barn door, plus 2" to be safe.
EX: 40" (barn door width measurement) + 2" = 42" minimum unobstructed wall space.
Ceiling Clearance: You will need an additional 7" of space at minimum between the ceiling and the top of the barn door itself in order for the top rollers to operate sufficiently.
EX: 97" (barn door height measurement) + 7" = 104" minimum ceiling height.
Wall Projection: All interior barn doors will project out from the wall approximately 3".
