What is Door Slide Direction?
Door slide direction refers to the direction in which your sliding door will slide open, when looking at it from the exterior of the door itself.
For our Center Split Slider models, the doors will be split from the center, with an even number of panels on either side, and will have one main active side which will need to be opened first before operating the opposing side of panels.
This is an example of a Center Split slider, where the panels split from the center and overlap to their respective sides. All of our exterior Center Split Slider doors are available in 2 different swing options, as described below:
Center Split - Right Active
From the exterior, right half of door panels are main active sliding panels, sliding from left to right.
Facing the door, while standing on the exterior of your space, the right half of door panels will be your main active sliding panels. These panels will slide from left to right, overlapping the far right panel.
The left half of door panels will then be able to slide from right to left, overlapping the far left panel.
Center Split - Left Active
From the exterior, left half of door panels are main active sliding panels, sliding from right to left.
Facing the door, while standing on the exterior of your space, the left half of door panels will be your main active sliding panels. These panels will slide from right to left, overlapping the far left panel.
The right half of door panels will then be able to slide from left to right, overlapping the far right panel.
Lift and Slide Handle
Our exterior sliders are made with a lift and slide mechanism. When the interior handle is lowered, this mechanism lifts the sliding panel up off of its track, creating an effortless sliding function. When the interior handle is raised, the sliding panel compresses back onto its track, creating a tight weather seal for added insulation.
*This mechanism will be able to lock and unlock from the interior side only as standard. If you need to be able to unlock the slider from the exterior side, please contact PINKYS for further options.
Recessed Finger Pull
Recessed finger pulls come standard on our exterior sliders, providing a comfortable and ergonomic means to operate and slide your doors open and closed from the exterior of your space.
Bottom Track
The bottom track of our exterior sliders help guide it's sliding panels along their respective channels.
The jamb size of this track will depend on the number of panels your slider contains, which is dictated by the overall width of the sliding door itself.
Up to 96" Door Width: 5.7" Jamb (2 Panels)
108" - 144" Door Width: 8.1" Jamb (3 Panels)
154" - 164" Door Width: 11.1" Jamb (4 Panels)
184" Door Width: 13.5" Jamb (5 Panels)
Bottom Rollers
Rollers attached to the bottom of the sliding panel(s) line up with their respective track channels, helping to provide a smooth sliding function.
Cleaning your Slider's Bottom Track
To clean the bottom track of your sliding door, simply use compressed air to remove any dust and debris buildup from its channels. Regular cleaning of the track will help your slider maintain a smooth and effortless sliding operation.
Cleaning your Doors
The glass and the metal should be cleaned with our Iron Door Spray on a regular basis to protect it from UV rays. This spray is specially made to leave a protective coating on your door, as well as keep the door clean from dirt and grime.
Spray our Iron Door Spray directly onto a microfiber towel, then wipe evenly along the surface of both the glass and metal. Spraying directly onto the window itself can more easily create streaks along the surface of the glass and door.
FAQs
Do I need to use a different glass cleaner and metal cleaner separately?
No, our Iron Door Spray will seamlessly clean each surface of your door. This will both clean your door, and give a layer of protection from the sun.
Can I buy a sliding door and then switch the slide direction?
You are not able to reverse the slide direction of our exterior sliding doors. These exterior sliding doors have differences on the interior and exterior sides in order to ensure weatherproofing. Reversing any of our exterior sliding doors from their intended slide direction orientation may result in weather damage.
Why does slide direction matter on my new exterior slider?
Slide direction is a matter of preference. It will directly determine the flow of traffic in and out of your space, so choosing the slide direction that compliments the flow of your specific space is integral to design.
Is the slide direction viewed from inside or outside?
The slide direction is always viewed from the exterior of the door itself.
