Glass Types
All of our stock glass options on exterior doors and windows will come standard with dual-pane tempered glass. If it's design is textured, the texture will be on the exterior most side of the glass.
Privacy
Each type of glass offers a different design that affects the level of privacy granted by that specific glass type. This page should give you a good idea of which glass type will fit the needs of the space you're looking to fill.
Low-E
Low-E glass is completely see-through, and considered our least private glass option. Low-E glass is made to be energy efficient, reflecting heat and UV rays. It can appear as if it has a mirror finish if looking at it from outside while the sun is at the right angle. When this happens, the glass can have a slight blue-ish hue.
Light transmission is very high, making this glass a popular option for those looking to be more energy efficient while letting the most amount of light possible into their space.
Flemish
Flemish glass offers a small amount of distortion when viewing from either side., However, some large details will be visible at certain angles. This is not recommended for areas needing privacy, only slightly distorting both shape and light from one side to the other. Visibility is considered relatively high, especially at close proximity. The further an object is away from the glass, the less clarity the glass will provide.
Light transmission is very high, making this glass a suitable option for those looking for a bit of privacy, while still getting an abundance of light into their space.
Rain
Rain glass offers little privacy when objects are in close proximity to the glass itself. Objects close to the glass will be a bit distorted, but still visible. The further objects are away from the glass itself on either side of the unit, the more distorted the objects become, in turn providing more privacy.
Light transmission is high, making this a good option for those want some clarity at short distances while gaining a good source of light into their space.
Ribbed
Ribbed Glass offers a moderate to high amount of privacy. Detail will be very difficult to distinguish when objects are only a few feet away, and shapes are almost completely diluted through the vertical ribs of the glass , with only minor clarity of objects, even when set at close distances.
Light transmission is moderate to high, but diffused due to the ribbed texture, creating a bit of a softer glow. This makes for a good option for those looking for a high amount of privacy at decent distances, while still gaining some light into their space.
Frost/Sandblast
Frost glass is considered the most private glass we offer, granting a high level of privacy, with a very low definition of visibility from one side to the other. Defined shadows can still be cast onto this glass and seen from the outside. No clear visuals can be made from either the exterior or interior of the unit.
Light transmission is moderate, but diffused, allowing for a silhouette like view of objects and shapes. This makes for a good option for those wanting the highest amount of privacy, while still gaining some light into their space.
Watercube
Watercube glass offers very little privacy when objects are directly behind the glass itself. Although this glass offers clarity at a minimal distance, as objects move further from the unit, distortion increases greatly. The large, bubble like textured finish highly obscures clarity at far distances
Light transmission is moderate to high, providing ample light into your space, making this a good option for those who prioritize a brighter space over a higher level of privacy.
Aquatex
Aquatex glass provides a moderate level of privacy, distorting shapes through the multiple textures on its surface. It offers some privacy from many angles, especially if objects are further away, distorting shapes and figures. The further an object is away from the glass, the more distorted the object will become.
Light transparency is low to moderate due to it's intricate texture, making this a good choice for those who want a good balance between privacy and light.
Wood
Wood glass provides a moderate to high level of privacy. Shapes can be visible at close distances, but clarity is obscured for objects of at most distances. Movement can be seen through the glass, but shape and object clarity is at a minimum.
This glass allows for low to moderate light transmission, but that light is significantly diffused due to the tight, horizontal wood-grain texture, making this a good option for who prioritize low light and good privacy.
Water Ripple
Water Ripple glass provides a moderate to high level of privacy. Due to its intricate texture and grain, shapes and objects can be difficult to make out, even at close distances, with greater distance leading to lesser clarity.
This glass allows for moderate light transmission, but that light does get diffused and redirected due to the intricate glass patterns. This makes for a great option for those who require some light, but prioritize privacy.
Diamond
Diamond glass provides a moderate to high level of privacy, as it's all over pebble-like texture is dense, adding to visual distortion. Even at close distances, objects and shapes appear distorted and can be difficult to make out. As with most textured glass, more distance = greater distortion.
Light transmission is moderate to low, also due to it's dense texture, making this a solid option for those who prefer a more private entry without letting in too much light.
Ford Blue
Ford Blue glass is a reflective glass that offers a range of privacy levels, depending on light angles and distance from the glass itself. It's naturally reflective nature provides a heavy mirror like finish, which is accentuated with direct sunlight, especially at far distances.
As you get close to the glass itself, privacy is depleted, and a clear visual of the opposite side is evident, albeit through it's blue hue.
Light transmission is relatively low due to it's reflective nature, making this a good option for someone who prefers more muted light, along with privacy from a distance.
Tea
Tea glass offers a varying levels of privacy. While it does offer some reflective properties at a distance, increasing it's privacy level, clarity is high while at closer proximity. The term "Tea" comes from it's tea-colored tint, which allows for reduced glare and an earthy feel.
At close proximity, clarity of the opposing side is evident, with a warm, muted light temperature.
Light transmission is moderate, but muted, providing a warmer light temperature into your space. This is a good option for those who prefer less bright daylight and a more subtle, ambient lighting feel.
Specs
PINKYS Air Series with Thermal Break steel doors and side windows are all made with dual-pane tempered glass. Due to the slim nature of their designs, all of these units come with fixed, non-operable panels.
Made with Simulated Divided Lites, there will be one full piece of glass per door panel, with simulated beveled push beads.
Glass Thickness
Our Air Series steel with thermal break doors feature high quality dual-pane tempered glass, with each pane measuring 5mm thick for better energy savings, as well as enhanced safety and noise insulation.
Spacer
A 12mm spacer is placed between our dual-pane tempered glass in order to provide enough space for any flexing of large panes, while maintaining a low profile.
Overall Panel Thickness
With two pieces of 5mm tempered glass fused together by a 12mm spacer, the overall thickness of each glass panel on our Air Series with thermal break steel doors comes out to 22mm.
Simulated Push Beads
Our Air Series steel doors and windows with Thermal Break are build with 3/4" simulated push beads. This helps create a classic grid design, while maintaining a high level of energy efficiency.
Low-E Explained
Low-e glass has a protective layer on the exterior side as well as 9mm of space filled with Argon gas in between two 5mm panes of glass. This helps to block UV rays, which can help to preserve furniture and flooring from getting damaged or bleached by the sun, while making your home more energy efficient.
How Do I Clean My Glass?
The glass and the metal should be cleaned with our Iron Door Spray on a regular basis to protect it from UV rays. This spray is specially made to leave a protective coating on your door, as well as keep the door clean from dirt and grime.
Spray our Iron Door Spray directly onto a microfiber towel, then wipe evenly along the surface of both the glass and metal. Spraying directly onto the door itself can more easily create streaks along the surface of the glass and door.
What If My Glass Breaks?
Our Air Series with Thermal Break steel doors are made with Simulated Divided Lites. If damaged, the entire glass panel would need to be replaced. If your glass does get damaged, please reach out via email to discuss your glass replacement options.
Glass Safety & Strength
Our doors utilize a series of different safety and security features, such as tempered glass, steel construction, and more.
Tempered Glass
All glass types we provide will be tempered. Tempered glass generally breaks into many small pieces that are less harmful and sharp than that of non-tempered glass.
Glass Strength
With such expansive glass panes, people may question the security of these doors. However, our dual-pane tempered glass is significantly stronger than many of the windows in most houses, and is securely held into its steel frame.
Protective Film
Our glass will arrive to you with a protective film that should be left on until the door is completely installed and construction is completed.
