Shipping & Receiving: What to Expect
PINKYS steel doors and windows are large, heavy, custom-built units, and how they arrive depends on the shipping method used for your order. Here's a simplified overview of what to expect, no matter how your order is delivered.
Getting Ready for Delivery
Regardless of shipping method, a few things stay consistent:
- Someone will call to schedule delivery. A delivery appointment is set in advance for residential deliveries; businesses may not require scheduling.
- Deliveries are curbside. Drivers will not enter driveways or private property, and won't travel on unpaved roads (gravel, dirt, sand).
- Deliveries happen Monday–Friday. No weekend delivery windows.
- Bring help. Plan for 3–4 able-bodied people on site to unload — drivers are not able to assist with offloading.
- Have basic tools ready. Most shipments are secured to a pallet and require simple tools (like a Phillips drill bit or a pair of scissors, depending on method) to disassemble and remove pieces safely.
- Don't drag the pallet. Pieces should be removed one at a time — pushing or dragging the pallet can bend a frame out of square.
Inspecting Your Delivery
This is the most important part of receiving your order.
- Before signing anything, look over the packaging. If there's damage severe enough that it looks like it reached the door or frame inside, deny the shipment and don't sign the delivery paperwork. Contact PINKYS the same day.
- If there's minor visible damage, note it directly on the delivery paperwork before signing, and contact PINKYS right away.
- After delivery, open everything and inspect fully — right away. Any damage discovered after the driver leaves ("concealed damage") must be reported to PINKYS within 3 days of delivery to qualify for a claim. After that window, PINKYS and the carrier are not able to honor a claim.
- Don't install a damaged door. Once installed, it can no longer be returned for repair or exchange.
- Keep the packaging if there's any damage — the original crate and pallet may be needed if the unit has to be shipped back for repair.
Storing Your Doors Before Installation
If your door won't be installed right away:
- Remove it from all shipping packaging as soon as possible. The plastic wrapping is for transport only, not long-term protection — trapped moisture can cause the paint to bubble or the steel to rust.
- Wipe down immediately if it gets wet, whether during offloading or from humidity.
- Store it safely. Frames are top-heavy, so use padding (towels work well) and store in a stable, dry location.
Picking Up an Order Yourself
If you're picking up from the PINKYS warehouse instead of having it delivered:
- Orders must be picked up within 10 days of the ready-for-pickup notice, or storage fees apply.
- Bring ID matching the name on the order (or email authorization in advance if someone else is picking up).
- You'll need an open-bed truck or box truck — passenger vehicles and SUVs can't be loaded.
- Bring tie-downs or straps to secure the load, and make sure your truck bed is clear and long/wide enough for the unit to lay flat.
One More Thing: Match Doors to Frames
Each door is manufactured as a matched set with its frame. If you've received multiple units of the same size, check the serial numbers on the door and frame (found on the CAD drawing on the packaging) to make sure they're paired correctly before installing. Mismatched pairs can cause alignment problems.
This is a general summary. Specific requirements, fees, and timelines can vary depending on your exact shipping method and location — reach out to the PINKYS team if you have questions about your specific order.
