What Door Size Do I Need?

How to Measure - Current Door Installed

If you currently have a door installed and are looking to replace it with a new PINKYS door, you will first need to obtain both the width and height measurements, as described below.

Width: Measure from the inside of the left door jamb to the inside of the right door jamb, omitting the projected door stops on both sides. Add 2" to this number to get the width of your new PINKYS door.

EX: 70" (width measurement) + 2" = 72" PINKYS door width

Height: Measure from the floor to the bottom of the top of the frame, omitting the projected door stop on the frame itself. Add 1" to this number to get the height of your new PINKYS door.

EX: 83" (height measurement) + 1" = 84" PINKYS door height

How to Measure - Visible Studs / Rough Opening

If you are working with a new construction, or have your wall opened up to the studs, then you will be able to measure for the rough opening itself. Rough opening measurements can be obtained as described below.

Width: Measure from the inside of the left stud to the inside of the right stud. Subtract 1" from this number to get the width of your new PINKYS door.

EX: 73" (width measurement) - 1" = 72" PINKYS door width

Height: Measure from the floor to the bottom of the header stud. Subtract 1" from this number to get the height of your new PINKYS door.

EX: 85" (height measurement) - 1" = 84" PINKYS door height

What does Net Size Mean?

When ordering a new PINKYS door, it important to note that all of our doors are pre-hung, meaning they include the door slab(s), frame, and hinges required for the door to operate.

The sizing displayed includes the dimensions of this pre-hung frame, which is known as the overall unit's net size.

What is Door Slab Size?

Door slab size refers to the measurement of each individual door slab, excluding the door's frame and reveals. Single doors will have one door slab, while double doors will have two door slabs.

How do I Measure my Door Slab Size?

To approximate the dimensions of the door slabs themselves (less the door frame and reveals), please refer to the below chart.

What is Jamb Size?

Jamb size refers to the depth of the door's jamb and frame, which correlates directly with the depth of the wall in which your door will be installed.

All of our standard exterior doors are built with 6" jambs, and include mounting tabs that are installed from the interior of your space. These tabs are inset to allow for drywall up to 5/8" to be installed directly over the tabs and sit flush with your frames edge.

If your wall is thicker than 6", you can choose to install your door with either an interior or exterior wall reveal.

If your specific application requires a nailer flange or bolt through installation method (for example if you are installing into a brick or stone wall), please contact our custom sales team so we could accommodate your request.

Custom jamb sizes are also available for purchase via each product's Made to Order section.

FAQs

Will PINKYS come and measure for my door size?

Unfortunately, we do not do home visits. However, we do have the information needed for you or a contractor to make the correct measurements needed. Please refer to the "How to Measure" video or directions located in the "Size" section of this informational pop-up.

This informational video and directions provide you with two ways to measure for your door size needed, depending on if you have a current door installed, or if you have your wall opened up with visible studs.

If you have your rough opening dimensions, you could also utilize our What Size is Right for Me? calculator located in PINKYS Information Center.

Is the displayed size the size of the doors themselves, or is the frame included in the sizing?

When ordering a new PINKYS door, it important to note that all of our doors are pre-hung, and the sizing displayed includes the dimensions of the units frame. This is known as the overall unit's net size.

How big is the actual door if this is the measurement of the frame?

To calculate your actual door slabs size, please refer to our "Swing Door Slab Size Calculator" located in the "Size" section of this information pop-up.

Do you provide installation guides for your doors?

Yes! We have video guides explaining each and every step of the process, as well as a full installation guide. The videos and link will be provided to you with your door via easy to scan QR codes on our packaging, as well as through email correspondence post purchase.

Can I just replace the door slab without changing the frame?

All of our doors are pre-hung, meaning they include both the door slab(s) as well as the corresponding frame. This included frame needs to be paired with its doors, as each unit is individually made by hand to fit with its specific frame, so your current door frame must be replaced during installation.

How much of an overhang do I need over my door?

All exterior units should have a proper overhang, as specified by the measurements below.

Overhang Depth:
Your overhang's depth should be as deep as your door is tall, at minimum.

Overhang Width: Your overhang's width should extend out the width of your door on both sides, at minimum.
